THE LEAD
Three days off. Here is the weekend, day by day.
Today is the Prophet Muhammad's (PBUH) Birthday holiday, moved from Tuesday to Friday under the Cabinet's holiday-transfer rule, which is why you have Friday, Saturday and Sunday off in one block. It also happens to be the last weekend of Dubai Summer Surprises, which closes on Sunday 30 August. That means two things end this weekend: the sale discounts that have run up to 90 percent across the city, and the 10 Dirham Dish deal, signature dishes at participating restaurants for Dh10, which also stops on Sunday.
Saturday is the big night. Jimmy Carr plays Dubai Opera twice, at 6.30pm and 9.30pm, from Dh250. Tickets are sold through Dubai Opera and Platinumlist, and Platinumlist was already showing sold out when we checked on Thursday, so go to Dubai Opera directly. Kuwait's Miami Band brings The Miami Show to Coca-Cola Arena the same evening. In daylight, the Ripe Market sets up at Hillhouse Brasserie, Dubai Hills Golf Club, from 10am to 7pm. On Sunday the kids' options are a cake-decorating class at Splendour Fields in JLT, 2pm to 4pm, Dh200 a child with a coffee for the parent, or the cake-painting workshop at Rove City Walk, 2pm to 7pm, Dh99 a person and free for under-8s with a paying adult.
If you want a hotel without leaving town, the Deira and Gold District cluster (ibis Styles, Mercure, Novotel and Adagio) is running Dh127 to Dh220 a night for 28 to 30 August, and Rove at The Park has rooms from Dh109 on Saturday with gaming tournaments and an outdoor movie thrown in. For a cheap splash, Splash 'n' Party in Dubai Hills is Dh50 a person until 15 September, open 9am to 9pm on weekends. And if the plan is one big table: Rowley's in DIFC is doing a 1kg cote de boeuf with unlimited fries, dessert and four soft drinks for Dh499, Friday to Sunday.
WHAT TO DO

Pick one thing a day and book it now, because the Saturday events are ticketed. Getting around: Dubai Metro runs from 5am today to 1am Saturday on both lines, the Tram from 6am to 1am, and the E100 bus to Abu Dhabi is suspended from 27 to 30 August, so take the E101. If you need GDRFA today, Al Aweer is open 6am to 8pm, Al Manara and Al Twar 9am to noon, and the Terminal 3 arrivals desk never closes.

1 Free parking today across Dubai and Abu Dhabi, but not everywhere
For the Prophet Muhammad's (PBUH) Birthday holiday today, public parking is free across Dubai and Abu Dhabi, with one catch on each side: multi-storey car parks still charge, and fees resume Saturday. In Abu Dhabi, Darb tolls are waived at the Sas Al Nakhl, Al Maqta, Rabdan and Saadiyat gates, but the Al Qurm and Ghantoot gates keep charging Dh4 a crossing around the clock. If you're driving out today it's a genuine saving worth using, just don't assume the mall's tower parking or those two gates went free with everything else. Sunday is the usual free-parking day too, so Saturday is the only paid day of the three.
 
2It's Emirati Women's Day, and plenty of the free treats aren't Emirati-only
Emirati Women's Day falls today, and Dubai venues are handing out complimentary desserts, drinks, spa treatments and classes. The detail worth forwarding: some offers need a valid Emirates ID and are for Emirati women only, but several are open to all women. Amelia at Address Sky View, for one, gives every lady dining 7pm to 10pm a complimentary Pelota de Chocolate with no Emirates ID needed. Read the eligibility line before you go, because the open-to-all ones are easy to miss under the Emirati-only headline.
 
3A heritage day trip most Dubai residents miss: Sharjah's Al Maleh Festival
Up the east coast at Al Hisn Island in Dibba Al Hisn, the 13th Al Maleh and Fishing Festival is running this weekend, open 9am to 9pm after starting Thursday. It gathers more than 80 exhibitors, from government stands to over 50 home-based productive families and fishing-equipment firms, with kids' rowing, diving and first-aid workshops, live tanks of local fish, and home-made food and crafts. If you've never driven out to the Eastern Region, this is a low-key, kid-friendly reason to.
   
WHAT IT MEANS
Update: the shared-housing law is live, and the first year is a grace year
We covered Law No. 4 of 2026 on 10 August, when the start date was set. What is new this week: it took effect on Wednesday, and Dubai Municipality has said the first year, to 26 August 2027 and extendable once, is a warning-and-regulatory window before any penalties apply. The permit system runs through the Municipality's digital platforms, and the Dubai Land Department's Shared Housing Register, where a shared tenancy contract has to be logged to carry legal weight, has not launched yet. Nobody is being moved out this week; eviction under the law needs an execution judge's decision and time to find another place.
The detail that changes your money: rent in a shared or bed-space unit is now fixed in the contract, paid monthly and in advance unless both sides agree otherwise, and it is deemed to include electricity and water unless the contract says otherwise, with the landlord settling the DEWA account. Check that at your next renewal, and if the number itself looks high, run it through Is This Rent Fair first.

THE DISH DEAL THAT ENDS SUNDAY

The 10 Dirham Dish promotion, part of Dubai Summer Surprises, has offered select signature dishes at participating venues for Dh10 since 3 August. It finishes on Sunday 30 August, the festival's last day, along with the sale weekends. If there was a restaurant you meant to try on it, this is the weekend.

Beat the heat: Aquaventure is open late through the long weekend
If the plan is to stay in town, Aquaventure at Atlantis, The Palm is running extended hours, 10am to 8pm, this Friday to Sunday, so you can push a family day right into the cooler evening. With well over a hundred slides and attractions it's the reliable long-weekend heat-beater; go late afternoon and you'll dodge both the queues and the worst of the sun.
