Dubai Summer Surprises is on: 90 per cent sales, a raffle for one of 12 apartments, and Dhs80 dinners from July 13
Dubai Summer Surprises opened four days ago, on July 2, its 29th edition, and runs 60 days to August 30. The backbone of it is the Great Dubai Summer Sale: up to 90 per cent off across major malls, with flash-sale weekends rotating through gold, electronics, beauty, fashion and home goods rather than one single rush.
The prize list is the part that's new information, not a repeat of every July. Binghatti Developers is giving away 12 residential units through the Win Your Home in Dubai campaign, a two-bedroom apartment as the grand prize. ENOC's Mega Raffle puts a 2026 Dongfeng 007 or a share of Dh500,000 cash on the table, a separate Digital Raffle runs nine draws for Exeed cars between now and August 29, and Dh500 spent with a participating jeweller enters a draw for a share of 3kg of gold.
Two dates worth marking ahead. Summer Restaurant Week runs Monday, July 13 to Sunday, August 2, a two-course lunch for Dhs80 or three-course dinner for Dhs120 at more than 55 venues, with the Beat the Heat concert series running alongside it. The Back to School window, discounts on school supplies, tech and family essentials, opens August 3 and runs to August 30, the same stretch the school break falls in.
WHAT TO DO

The raffle and gold-draw thresholds apply automatically at the point of purchase, no separate sign-up: Dh500 at a jeweller for the gold share, Dh300 or more on a receipt for the Lucky Receipt prizes. Restaurant Week tables at the busier venues are worth booking ahead of the July 13 start rather than on the day.

1 The visa grace window closes Thursday, July 9
The grace-period window tied to this year's airspace disruptions runs until Thursday, July 9, which leaves three days. Worth being precise about what this is, because it's narrower than the forwarded screenshots suggest: it's the window for people whose visit-visa entry was caught by the airspace closures, not the standard residence grace period, and no extension has been published. If you think it might apply to you, the status is a quick check with a typing centre or the UAE identity and citizenship authority and GDRFA channels rather than a guess.

2IB diploma results land at 4pm today
The International Baccalaureate releases this year's diploma results at 4pm UAE time today, and thousands of families across Dubai's IB schools are waiting on them. Early word points to another crop of perfect 45s in the country, though that's the top end rather than the whole cohort, the fuller school-by-school picture tends to settle over the following days. If a result touches a university place, the school's IB coordinator is the first call, not the group chat.
 
3A service road by Burj Khalifa shuts until end-2026
The RTA has closed the bus-and-taxi service road near Burj Khalifa and Dubai Mall for works running to the end of 2026, part of a Metro station expansion that lifts the hub's capacity. In the near term it means changed pick-up and drop-off points on the Dubai Mall approach, so if the fountain-and-mall run is on the summer list, it's worth checking where the taxis are actually stopping before you set off.
   
WHAT IT MEANS
Beyond today: a new way to cross the country, and a thread still ticking over
If you want a genuinely new thing to do with a summer weekend, the country just got easier to cross. Etihad Rail's intercity passenger service is now running its early routes, and on the operator's own figures the Fujairah-to-Abu Dhabi leg takes about 105 minutes at up to 200km/h, a drive that has never been quick, done sitting down. The early trains carry around 400 passengers each across Comfort and First Class, and Fujairah's tourism side, in Saeed Abdullah Al Samahi's telling, is treating it as a reshaper rather than a novelty: an emirate that was a three-hour commitment from Dubai starts to look like a day trip. This is still the early-route phase, the full national network fills in later in 2026, so a summer ride is a first look rather than the finished timetable.
The one thread that isn't about everyday life stays exactly that, a thread. The US-Iran picture has held de-escalatory over the past week, no signed treaty, but no fresh escalation either, which is the calm-but-unfinished state it's been in for a while. For anyone flying this week the only practical footnote is Emirates' standing summer reminder to arrive early at DXB and allow extra time through the peak, which is as much about holiday crowds as anything. Nothing has really moved since last week, and on a Monday in July that's the update: quiet, and holding.
